About

The Learning Street brings together learners and trainers on the high street and builds local learning communities Regular education sessions allow people to train others in what they are passionate about, enables them to earn small payments for doing so, according to what students can afford, and it enables students to learn new things. It also supports local businesses by bringing the community together in cafes and back bars which would otherwise be empty and under optimised... location samples in Vienna Dublin Cafe, back bar in summer Mama mia Pizza, kellar bar in summer Al Chile! - Austria's first Happy Cafe "learn to read, read to learn, learn to earn" more here http://thelearningstreet.strikingly.com/ and here https://www.facebook.com/The-Learning-Street-771888369629154/ page group https://www.facebook.com/groups/298643123999491/ see less

The Learning Space

core to the concept of The Learning Street is "The Learning Space" where people can learn, a bit like in a language lab, a classroom or a library...

A physical space on the street for 12 learners, with a coach. Wifi, coffee and Art. Fast, reliable, affordable internet. 7x24 for members

12 learners all learning the same thing, or all learning different things, or a chunk of time ( 45 or 90 minutes ) as a team. The coach can help with the topic, or with use of technology, or with learning methodologies, or all... The coach facilitates the team across cultures, genders and generations...

pilot location/s in Vienna
- SMART Academy in 3rd district
- Backerei Schwarz in 13th ( Hietzinger Haupstrasse 70 )

English Learning Space

As a migrant in Wien, you aren't going to meet many Austrians in a German course, other than the trainer. However, if you go to a Spanish, Italian or English course you are much more likely to meet some Austrians wishing to expand their knowledge and horizons, especially if the courses are focussed on a 50/50 mix of Austrians and migrants....

The English Learning Space here blends some great technology with some great trainers and offers you a social setting that nurtures your knowledge and helps you to grow.

We are planning learning sessions to suit your time and budget, and as a first step we warmly invite you to one of our information sessions where you can meet our trainers, see the technology in action, and hear more about our programs.

The Nissi Project

John has kindly invited us to serve the school in an advisory capacity, and we are keen to collaborate.

Our focus is to bring blended learning solutions, allowing people to learn using the internet in the way that we do.

CAF - Content Access Funding - there is great content, some people have limited access, how to pull together funding to enable people to self organise in learning groups. The Learning Street aims to catalyse this, and provide remote learning mentors to guide students

We are reaching out now to bring together partners and solution providers that might support creation of an eLearning room, a Learning Space, at The Nissi Project

Sampark Foundation

https://www.financialexpress.com/education-2/frugal-tech-innovations-in-education/1763960/

This was not a story of just one classroom I saw in the winter of 2012 but the story of 14 crore children in India’s 740,000-plus government schools where learning levels showed alarming negative trends despite increased investments. As I drove back to Delhi that dark evening it was clear to me what I needed to do – talk less about the problem and try and do my best to find a solution. I quit my cushy job as CEO of a multi-billion dollar company and started working full time with these schools through Sampark Foundation. What we needed was design thinking and an out-of-the-box innovative approach that was frugal and scalable so as to impact many and not just a few.

The first step in design thinking was to answer the basic question of what exactly is the problem? Many did point to the poor infrastructure – the crumbling buildings, the broken benches, absence of toilets et al. Yes, all of this was a problem, but the real problem was how the teachers teach. Teachers are mostly uninspired, uninterested and untrained; pedagogy is flawed and outdated —thus the classroom transaction is a boring, dull and an unedifying affair.

We decided to change that by designing unique innovations in teaching tools and methods that could ignite a rural classroom. After years of research, we developed Sampark Smart Shala, a cutting-edge, technology-driven frugal solution, based on user-centric design thinking, and our entire intervention costs less than $1 per child per annum. Sampark Smart Shala uses audio technology along with a voice mascot called ‘Sampark Didi’ combined with music, stories, songs and interactive TLMs to make teaching and learning fun. Since schools in rural India don’t have uninterrupted access to electricity or the internet, a battery-operated audio box is a better choice. Such devices can be made available easily, they are affordable, need low skills to use and, ignite a child’s imagination.

If you are interested in education and have nothing better to do on 20 Aug (4-5pm Vienna/South African time), catch me on this broadcast on Frugal Education:
Constraints foster innovation. This broadcast will focus on how those who don't have many resources at their disposal are able to create a tremendous learning experience. We will be interviewing:
Albert Nashon of the SLUMCODE GREEN PROJECT of Nairobi; Alex Moura of the ALEX FOUNDATION of Minaus; Elsa Raubenheimer Lilienfeld of DEMOCRATIC LEARNING SERVICES; and Roland Reichart-Mückstein of OPENSCHOOL.WORLD.
As Benjamin Spock once said "Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do"

The Learning Pod

"Verein in Gründung"
Statutes in Process week of 10th August

We are taking applications now for a possible group of kids, based on the "village" it takes to raise a child, with a mix of the village green, the sports facilities, fresh air learning as well as indoors when required - to read, write and do arithmetic in a playful accepting and thankful family type environment with friends - also @homes during covid lockdown

Concept - 12 kids of mixed age, centred around 1 to 5 - pre schoolers, with room for siblings, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Like an English speaking Thursday afternoon Playgroup ( 2000-2005, Wien and Moedling  )  meeting at the park or dschungelwien, parents are responsible for their own kids.

New however is the rota concept that while 6 parents are playing with 12 kids, the other 6 can be co-working. co-learning, or co-living nearby ( a bit like leaving your kids in the IKEA creche while you go off around SCS )

Because it is "family" not "business" friends can go home together and have a sleep over, ( as Vince often did ) leading to the option for parents to take a mid week overnight break without kids...

Current thought is 3.5 days, Tuesday morning to Friday lunchtime... focus on a 21 hour week, to support the 21 hour working week put forward for over ten years by the New Economics Foundation in the UK. What point a 3 day work week if your kids are in school 5 days thus you cannot take long weekend family learning breaks,

Existing models to look at are Purbach, ex-Markhof and Regus Nineteen.

Designed as a scalable model we are looking to educate global citizens through partnering groups in different parts of the world  - and as kids grow older we are looking at travel exchanges, and interesting work and more experiences to develop skills, experience and stories to tell. Our aim is that for each further stage in life, our members have an exceptional CV to take the nest step, supported by a lifelong mentoring program.

Inspirational backing is Hackschooling TED talk by a 13 year old, and the TED talk , are schools killing creativity, also Jamies - Teach every kids to cook ten meals - award winning TED talk

Fees can vary and are based on consensus within group as to what and where the group does, scholarships are potentially available at local or wider level.

weekly welcome meetings to try out the group
