Kakuma's Learning ii

Goal i - set up 2020 wifi hotspots in homes in Kakuma Camp by end 2020 serving wifi to neighbours within reach, allowing home schooling and home office as we are used to in Austria. Enable people to learn English, Coding and Entrepreneurship to strengthen their CVs with new skills and experiences.

budget outline - ( seeking finance )

2,020 routers at 150 dollars ( perhaps use smartphones ) and 2,020 internet packages at 600 $ for 2020

total, circa = 1.42 m $ - for 2,020 hotspots to serve say 24,240 people ( 12 per hotspot ) = "Impact"

( alternatives - to use mobile phones as hotspots  as here in Austria, and in Uganda. Perhaps use existing mobiles with data bundles )

Impact Assessment - 24,240 people with internet access

----

Goal ii - co-create a useful training program for "students" in the camp to be facilitated by a key group of "team leaders" - focus initially on Coding, English and Entrepreneurship, also with arts music maths stem and sports.  Essentially the aim is Holocratic groups of people who both "work" and "learn" , learning happening as required in SOLE process.

"I am a refugee"

 here is my story...

please watch my story and get in touch with us here

- another view of the camp here in pictures / here from Keith Bedford

Kakuma refugee camp

Established in 1992 following the arrival the “Lost Boys of Sudan” and with a population of nearly 190,000, the UNHCR refugee camp in Kakuma, Kenya, now resembles a sprawling shanty town. It has shops, restaurants, trades, and a makeshift power grid. Southern New Hampshire University has established an online degree program in the UNHCR refugee camp. The competency-based program, which has little traditional classroom time, provides students hope. -- Photography by Keith Bedford/Globe Staff - Read the Story -
