Learning to Grow Food

.... inspired by my personal journey

having read this I made comments below and am formulating a plan now

1h
Does you child schools from ECD to High school provide Agriculture as a subject? Keep that answer to yourself! Is the department of Education doing enough to bring back this precious subject? We are gambling with our kids future if no tangible and proactive steps are taken to help address this chronic disease. What role are you playing in advocating for Agriculture to be taught like any other subject?
Well, Tim Nectar Farms is leading this campaign vigorously as we know what's at stake. Our journey took us to Dowerglen High School where we established a Micro Farm at the school to supplement the school feeding scheme, help address food insecurity and be a learning hub for all interested in Agriculture. Amazingly the new Head boy Kwena Makhafalo and Lulama Mhlongo the new Head girl have been pushing for this. Our arrival was one of their many prayers being answered. Dr. Hammer the new principal couldn't share enough how delighted he was!
From 2024 Dowerglen will be getting the Agriculture dosage.
Keep waiting for government to bring back Agriculture and you and your generation will die still waiting.

As a kid, I grew vegetables on our allotment, and sold them outside our house. I gained a Cub Scout gardener badge after an interview with a local gardener . We got a caravan when I was six and we stayed at farm sites and I saw farmers at work. I wanted to be a farmer until I realised how much hard work it would be. I studied Agricultural Economics as one subject from 6 in the first year at University ...... Perhaps we can recreate something like this for all kids. None of it was in school or led by the Education Ministry. lets get creative ๐Ÿ™‚

In Vienna, many schools have raised bed or small garden plots or small corners in parks. You have inspired me to look at this program, find out more, and perhaps link it to Kakuma and Nakivale, which I personally see in my mind as the 25th and 26th districts of Vienna ๐Ÿ™‚
